Chances are that you’ve heard the term Wi-Fi within the past few months. Coffee shops and fast food restaurants are now offering this service free to anyone that enters their place of business. In short, Wi-Fi is an abbreviation for Wireless Fidelity, and it means that there is a wireless internet signal available within a certain range of the location that is displaying a sign that says it has wi-fi.

Wireless networking has grown extremely fast in the past few years due to its ability to create internet locations almost anywhere, and its interoperability between applications and technologies such as VoIP, Internet access, and online gaming.

Basically, Wi-Fi is just like a radio signal, it is broadcast from an antenna and received by your computer which has an antenna inside of it that receives the signal and translates it into a language that it interprets as an internet signal.
